About Chris Hauth

Ironman Age Group World Champion,
2x Olympian, Ultra-Endurance Coach

Chris Hauth is a former Olympic swimmer that quickly joined the ranks of world-class triathletes. In 2006 Chris won the Ironman Coeur D’Alene and went on to be the first American amateur & 4th overall American at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. After 12 years in finance, Chris nowadays exclusively runs his coaching program ‘AIMP’ for athletes throughout the country and throughout the world. With AIMP he not only works with ultra swimmers, bikers or runners: his ultra endurance approach and mindset coaching is applied to athletes from solo-sailing to Nordic Olympic skiers, even military Special Forces and executives in the corporate world.

Besides age group winning triathletes, Chris has coached Western States top finishers, Ultraman winners and plenty of swimmers towards age group nationals and Olympic Trials. Chris is focused not only on the physical training for ultra-endurance sports, but heavily focuses on the mental side as well. Whether just starting out, or looking to reach the top levels in the ultra-endurance world, Chris has the proven results to work with any athlete. Many of Chris’s former athletes were beginners in the endurance world and have now moved on to athletic events and adventures they never thought possible.

AIMP is an advanced training program for the ultra endurance athlete. Going long is a serious endeavor and although there are plenty of athletes that just ‘give it a whirl’, the ultra distance contains risks with every mile you go past that start line. Whether you are looking to finish feeling strong & with a smile, or looking to race for a result, an ultra endurance event or endeavor contains too many variables that cannot be avoided. With outstanding preparation and knowledge going into your event or adventure, many of these variables can be controlled and even embraced. This is where effective coaching comes into play.

You may be the athlete that has successfully completed a training program and is looking to advance their training or you may be the athlete looking to qualify for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii. Many athletes join AIMP to finish their next endurance event feeling strong with the best possible result or for that last step needed overcoming the distance for any ultra endurance event. For either outcome, AIMP was designed to help you reach that next level.

The challenge in the ultra endurance world is not primarily the physical. While AIMP Coaching can help you get to the starting line of your endurance event prepared physically for most any distance or adventure, it is the mental game that will help you not only finish, but grow and embrace the challenge that lies ahead. AIMP focuses equally on the mindset needed for ultra endurance events and helps you grow as an athlete as well as a person to apply the lessons of the ultra endurance training & racing to any aspect of our lives: career, family or any challenge you can imagine.

“The way you approach hardship defines you.”

About David Hettena

US National Champion, Ultramarathoner,
Ultra Endurance Coach

David is a full-time endurance coach and elite athlete, competing in races from the 10K to the hundred-mile distance, and beyond. A highly active fixture in the ultramarathon community, he has crewed and paced countless athletes to successful finishes in ultramarathons including Western States 100 and the Leadville Trail 100. With 20 years immersed in high-level competitive athletics, David enjoys working with a broad range of athletes, from off-the-couch beginners to elite veterans of endurance adventuring and racing.

At 6’4” and 205lbs, David has become among the fastest larger ultra runners in the country, typically finishing near the front of every race he enters, demonstrating that endurance racing can be accessible to anyone who is willing to put in the work, whether or not they ‘look like an endurance athlete.’

David Hettena is a retired USA National Champion Alpine Ski Racer (2005 Park City, UT) and USA Rugby Men’s Club flanker, now fully immersed in the endurance lifestyle.  You can find David running or riding on the high altitude trails, roads, and tracks of the Rocky Mountains as he prepares for his own ultra-endurance adventures, volunteering at races across the country, or bikepacking through the middle of nowhere.

As Chris Hauth’s right-hand man, David co-coaches toward athletes’ endurance adventures of choice, providing detailed endurance training, strength, and mindset insights necessary to reach and enjoy their endurance potential.

Prior to joining AIMP Coaching, David served as Vice President of the #4 nationally-ranked Dallas Rugby Football Club, founding and directing the organization’s Strength & Conditioning Team.  He then joined a San Francisco innovation management consultancy and tech startup before returning to his love for guiding passionate athletes along their journey to greater athletic performance and longevity.
